Working meeting of Coalition

Working meeting of members of Coalition ''United support to Roma inclusion'' was held on 17th November in Bar. This meeting was held following the two-day seminar on Roma responsive budgeting in which also participated members of Coalition.

Meeting was used as an opportunity for overview and discussion on activities in the framework of the project ''Joint Initiative to Empower Roma Civil Society in the Western Balkans and Turkey'', including the Most Roma friendly Mayor campaign and this year's sub-granting scheme.

In relation to that, present members of Coalition were introduced with 3 projects which are supported through this year's subgranting scheme, and which deal with topics of importance for Roma community in all municipalities. Participants were introduced with main goals as well as with ongoing and planned activities in the scope of these projects. Current activities relate to:

- data collection and cooperation with primary school ''Drago Milovic'' in order to license this school for education of adults and children who dropped out of primary education (Association of Egyptians);

- preparation of forum theatre and establishing cooperation with local institutions with the aim of promotion of Roma culture (Centre for affirmation of RE population and REA)

- conducting workshops for obtaining basic digital literacy (Roma from north and Romani movement)

Besides presenting ongoing activities, topic of discussion was also current position of Roma in municipalities where coalition members act (Bijelo Polje, Budva, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Nikšić, Ulcinj, Podgorica), with focus on local action plans for Roma inclusion and the role of these organisations on local level. In municipalities Herceg Novi and Ulcinj development and adoption of local action plans are currently in process, while in Bijelo Polje, Nikšić and Tivat they already exist. It is concluded that particular attention and increased activity is necessary in Budva, together with frequent and timely exchange of information between coalition members, which is of key importance. Opening of Office for Roma issues in Municipality Bijelo Polje and employment of one Roma is mentioned as a commendable step on local level.

Meeting was concluded with announcement of the upcoming national event, in which coalition members should take active participation.

Working meeting of Coalition is activiry in the framework of the project ''Joint Initiative to Empower Roma Civil Society in the Western Balkans and Turkey'', financed by the European Union. Project is coordinated by Roma Active Albania, and NGO Young Roma is national partner organisation for Montenegro.
